Andrea Sharpe
Registered Clinical Counsellor
Welcome!
I am Andrea, a Registered Clinical Counsellor. I work with children, youth, and their families, as well as adult clients. I work in both West and North Vancouver, British Columbia. This is a place where you can learn about my work and my approach to counselling. Please reach out with any questions.
Who do I work alongside?
I work with a broad range of clients who have a desire for change in their lives. I support many neurodiverse children, youth and their families. I also help individuals of all ages who are strengthening their self understanding, gaining acceptance of their unique abilities, and developing skills to reach their potential.
The Process of Counselling
15 Minute Call
The first step is for us to connect through a complimentary 15 minute call so that I can understand what you are looking for and to determine if I have the competencies to support you. It is also a time for you to consider whether I would be the right fit for you. The fit between the counsellor and the client is essential for the success of therapy.
Building a relationship
This step is what I believe to be the most important part of the counselling process, building a relationship between the counsellor and the client. Comfort and a sense of emotional safety are essential in order to be able to move to a deeper level of vulnerability and exploration. We therefore begin with a foundation of connection and trust.
The work of therapy
We will then identify the outcomes you would like to achieve through counselling, and together determine a path to attain those goals. I use a variety of therapeutic approves depending on what works best with your learning style, beliefs, and desired outcomes. We may use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, an examination of the stories which you hold about your life, or experiential strategies to work toward these goals. You will help to decide what context works best for you. We might walk together in nature, sit in my office or connect virtually for our sessions. Each client’s counselling process is different because I believe each person thrives with a unique, individualized approach.
Frequency & Duration
Together, we will decide the frequency of our sessions, depending on your needs and the focus of therapy. We will often start with a greater frequency, such as every two weeks, and then reduce the frequency to once a month.
Each person’s duration in therapy is different. Some clients come to address one goal, and then do not return once they have achieved it. Others will come back when another pressing need comes up. No two journeys are the same.
